a tres musical expert, an ethnomusicologist based near Puerto Vallarta in southern Mexico. This chap, a Peruvian who lived for many years in Cuba and studied the history of the tres (something like a guitar and supposedly used on the album) it would appear, was approached early on to secure the best available instrument. He heard some snippets about content of the upcoming new album (which then had yet to be recorded). The Mexican wire agency Prensa Latina interviewed the man but the story was spiked because the duty editor considered it to be unreliable. Furthermore he felt the Peruvian's grasp of English was weak, which made the story even less likely since he claimed to have spoken to Bob Dylan. However, it has since emerged that the chap has a strong capacity to understand spoken English; his difficulty is speaking the language, partially owing to a condition somewhere on the autism spectrum. It is also considered likely that Mr Dylan may have used some Spanish in the conversation
The spiked story runs thus, translated from the Spanish, possibly by someone with poor English themselves so please factor in the various elements of 'lost in translation':
PUERTO VALLARTA, Prensa Latina, Jan 28 - The US musical iconography (sic) Bob Dylan is to make a new LP using the tres Cubano, an instrument similar to guitar.
A source, declining to be giving his name, is saying Mr Bob Dylan is definitely making the new record and will make wonderful songs for a new generation of fans.
Strangely, his choice is to revisit his older songs, but to use the music from different old songs. The source tells PV: "He said it would be kind of fun, "you know mix it up a little man", I think that's what he said.
The source, hailing from a different part of the continent, says he is a big Bob Dylan fan so he wanted to get some ideas of what songs would be appearing.
"So man, I was excited to a great extent to meet this guy, but I wanted to know, you know, what songs?"
It turns out that one example is that Mr Bob Dylan will sing the words of Blowing In the Wind to the tune of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door''.
"He's telling me: look I want to make it really hard, a big challenge, so the tunes won't really fit the words but you know I can deal with that and make it work.''
Another example is the timeful (sic) classic Hurricane slowed down a lot and with a more obscure recent tune "Life is Hard".

La preuve ci-dessous daté du 19 février 2009 NEW YORK, (Reuters), Feb 19 - Songwriting legend Bob Dylan is to release a new album in the spring, sources at Sony Music have confirmed - but it will be an album with a difference. "Bob has put down 13 tracks covering his own material,'' said one source, who attended listening sessions, adding 10 will be released. "But in a most unusual twist, he has recorded the lyrics of some of his own most potent songs, but with each one sung to the tune of one of his others," she told Reuters, on condition of anonymity. "For instance, Blowin' in the Wind is the opening track, but it is sung to the tune of Changing of the Guard. "Bob decided this technique would allow for some powerful reinterpretations of his own music, and would allow him to extend himself in the way the phrasing tied in with the different tunes.'' Other tracks include: Idiot Wind sung to the tune of Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Isis sung to the tune of It's alright Ma (I'm only Bleeding) and Like A Rolling Stone sung to the tune of Just Like a Woman. "Until you hear the material, it's difficult to imagine how some of these lyrics are strung around the alternative tunes, but it works beautifully,'' the Sony source
