J'ai presque eu de mal à y croire lorsque j'ai vu le message de Baptiste
16mn d'un Dylan inédit !
On est plus dans un récit que dans une chanson classique, raison pour laquelle je pense qu'il faut vraiment se pencher sur le texte pour apprécier la chanson à sa juste valeur.
En ce qui me concerne j'ai toujours été davantage fasciné par la voix de Dylan que par ses textes. Son grain, sa façon de changer au fil du temps, de s’effondrer et puis, un jour, de se remettre debout comme Lazarre.
c'est vrai que la voix est claire. Au début j'ai situé la chanson vers l'époque "Modern Times", mais en comparant les enregistrements je pencherai finalement pour "tempest".
J'ai pas compris grand chose aux paroles mais les thèmes et les sujets abordés semblent assez proches de l'univers de chansons comme "Rool On John " non? ..
Un flashback vers les sixties et les figures mythique de cette époque.
Pour moi il y a une filiation qui pourrait faire penser qu'il était dans le même mood au moment de l'écriture.
S'était peut être une chanson qui était en concurrence avec Tempest?
Il fallait une chanson "Fleuve" et c'est Tempest qui a été choisi.
Sinon en termes de force je la situe au même niveau que "tempest" c'est à dire loin quand même de son chef d'oeuvre absolue dans le genre qui reste "Highlands"
Cela étant dit, oui je me souviendrais longtemps de ce 27/03. Un des jours de ma vie où Bob Dylan a publié une nouvelle chanson!

Merci pour le transcript. C'est très émouvant de découvrir ça au réveil, après bientôt deux semaines de confinement. Comme avoir des nouvelles d'un très vieil ami. Son message m'a réconforté. Sa chanson apaisé. Je suis si heureux d'avoir toujours ce bon vieux Bob à nos côtés.

D'instinct, je placerais aussi cet enregistrement à l'époque de "Tempest", ou au moins entre 2012 et 2013, surtout quand il dit "for the last 50 years", ça semble collé. Au niveau de la voix aussi. Qu'on ait encore des inédits aussi conséquents à découvrir, ça laisse rêveur.

C'est sûr que ce serait intéressant de savoir si c'est enregistré avant le Nobel ou après.
Si c'est après, ça veut dire qu'il s'est laissé prendre au jeu de la "Nobel lecture", sur le thème "Homère chantait ses textes, donc la littérature écrite, hein...".

D'ailleurs, vous l'imaginez comment son confinement ?
Moi je le vois bien à son atelier de soudure dans la journée et dans une cave à déguster son whisky le soir. Les plus optimistes peuvent l'imaginer en train d'écrire les "Chroniques Vol.2" ou d'écouter le mixage de son nouvel album dans l'autoradio d'une de ses vieilles bagnoles, comme c'était son habitude dans les années 80. Parfois je l'imagine comme un parrain de la mafia, parfois comme un gentil monsieur sénile confiné dans un EHPAD. Avoir de ses nouvelles fait plaisir en tout cas !

Comme Baptiste, j'ai l'impression que ce n'est pas une chute de Tempest. Il me semble que sa voix est plus claire que sur Tempest même si le style d'écriture ressemble pas mal à Roll on John ou Tempest.

Le titre Murder Most Foul est tiré d'Hamlet, encore un référence à Shakespeare.

En 2017, Dylan a passé trois jours en studio en Irlande. Peut-être que cette chanson date de cette époque ? Comme Astralweeks, j'ai pensé à la "Nobel lecture", il y a une similitude je trouve.

La présence des violons fait quand-même beaucoup penser aux arrangements de Girl From the North Country ou Boots of Spanish Leather qu'il a commencés à jouer l'été dernier.
Sur ER, des membres pensent que c'est George Receli à la batterie. Si c'est le cas, cet enregistrement n'aurait rien à voir avec les rumeurs d'un nouvel album enregistré cet hiver en Californie.

Tel que dit sur Expectingrain, ce post de Sexton de 2019 ressemble quand même beaucoup à Murder most foul... (même si évidemment, vu ce qu'on y voit, c'est-à-dire rien, difficile de dire si c'est des sessions avec Dylan).

La voix n'était pas comme celle-ci, tellement travaillée, améliorée durant sa période Sinatra, c'est certain. Sur Tempest il est à la fin de sa période TTL et la voix n'est pas la plus net qui soit et malgré la "transformation" vocale sur Tempest, on était encore loin de ce qui aillait venir (il n'y a qu'à ré écouter Duquesnes Whistles et Pay in Blood pour s'en convaincre).  Et le piano sur cette chanson est mis très en avant, et puis comme vous j'ai pensé au discours Nobel. Un exercice, un entrainement qui l'a amené à écrire cette chanson sur Kennedy, son Amérique et ses fantasmes musicaux. Bob is still alive [/i]et je ne m'attendais PAS DU TOUT à ça. Je pense que l'on a tous été surpris aujourd'hui par cette annonce et de l'apprendre ailleurs que sur nos chers forums. Bob devait partir avec son Band au Japon. Annulation et cadeau de sa Majesté pour occuper nos saintes journées d'oisiveté (par pour tous, merci aux autres). Et puis Bob se veut politique dans cette chanson et j'ose y voir une critique envers ce canard de Trump comme il avait pu le faire, à sa manière au Desert Fest à la fin du concert en chantant Master Of War au moment de la campagne présidentielle. Pas pour rien qu'il n'écrit plus rien depuis Obama, il avait en tête quelque chose à mettre sur le papier. Il a réussi. A sa sauce, comme toujours.

Tellement de références, de jeux de mots délicieux qui sonnent à merveille quand c'est Bob qui les prononces. L'instrumentation est tellement belle, très travaillée et concorde totalement avec les 2 dernières années du NET. Je ne suis pas assez connaisseur pour y entendre la batterie de Georges ou non (je pencherais pour dire que oui tout de même) mais en tout cas c'est Bob Dylan qui chante et on est le 27 mars 2020 dans nos canap' cher forum!

Alors bon confinement à tous, bonne écoute et continuons à rêver en ce nouvel album "Days of Yore". Je pense que cela ne fait plus aucun doute, c'est pour cette année.

Certains évoquent la période TOOM.
Ca ne colle pas au niveau de la voix, ou alors c'est vraiment surprenant et ça ouvrirait beaucoup d'autres questions.
L'argument c'est qu'il ne fait référence a aucun évènement post 2000 dans le texte (je n'ai pas vérifié ce point)

Non, je ne pense pas. J'ai lu ces arguments aussi mais pour moi c'est impossible. Dylan ne jouait pas du tout du piano comme sur l'enregistrement (d'ailleurs dans les 90' il en jouait très peu, un peu au début de la décennie mais pas du tout dans cet esprit). Et puis la voix est clairement post Sinatra, je n'arrive même pas à lui trouver les tonalités de Tempest et pour ce qui est de l'arrangement dès les premières secondes j'ai pensé à Triplicate... On peut se poser pas mal de questions et ça rend tout cela excitant. Pourquoi Dylan précise qu'elle a été enregistrée il y a un moment? pour cacher les rumeurs d'un nouvel album? Si je poussais le vice un peu plus loin je dirais qu'il s'amuse de nous tous, que cette chanson a été enregistrée lors des dernières sessions en studio post Beacon 2019 et qu'elle est le prémisse d'un nouvel album.

Si je me trompe, au mieux cette chanson date des sessions de Tempest même si je n'arrive pas à y croire une seule seconde en écoutant l'enregistrement. Mais 1997, certainement pas.

Time Out of Mind, ça ne tient pas de bout deux minutes. La voix, les arrangements...Rien à voir avec le Dylan de 97.

C'est du Dylan, on oscille entre chanson, slam et poésie. C'est marrant hier je l'écoutais pour la quatrième fois et j'y ai trouvé des intonations de Long & Wasted Years dans le rythme et le phrasé...en moins soutenue. Mais il n'y a que lui pour chanter ainsi et franchement cette chanson fleuve est sublime.

50 years, donc depuis 63=2013 minimum. De plus comme dit précédemment, la voix correspond que très peu à sa voix caverneuse de tempest. De plus, il nous a gratifié sur sa dernière tournée de Lenny Bruce (autre personnage important des US 60s). Donc je vous rejoins pour un post tempest (entre 2015-et 2020 pour moi)

Oui et l'allusion à Lenny Bruce sur la dernière tournée ne fait que confirmer qu'il est dans une période hommage tu as raisons. Tout comme pour John Lennon en 2012 vous me direz ! mais la phrase back in 50 years c'est de l'approximatif mais je réduirais davantage la période: 2017/2020 pour moi

EN fait je l'aime de plus en plus cette chanson.
Elle se découvre petit à petit y compris dans le phrasé
Je ne la place pas encore au niveau de Highland mais déjà clairement au dessus de Tempest

Immense chanson pour un énième rebondissement d'une carrière sensationnelle...depuis 1988 et le début du Never Ending Tour c'est une succession de spectaculaires rebondissements qui jalonnent la carrière de Dylan: le Net avec ses sommets (1988-90, 1998, 2000, 2018-2019 entre autres); des immenses albums que l'on attendait (presque) plus (Oh Mercy, Travelling Wilburys Vol1, TOOM évidemment, Love and Theft, Modern Times...),les Bootlegs series (l'intégralité des 15: ils apportent tous leurs lots de perles), les films (No direction Home, I'm not there, Masked and anonymous, Rolling Thunder Revue...), les Radio Thème times, le Nobel, les expos, le whisky (pas encore goûté au "Heaven's door": peut-être que l'on devrait contacter la maison du Whisky de Paris pour qu'ils se bougent...et organiser une soirée de dégustation entre nous lorsque le confinement aura pris fin), sans compter les chansons majeures distillées ça et là (Dignity, Thing have changed, Huck's tune, 'cross the green mountain...)...

Et Murder most Foul donc à l'intersection du discours du Nobel, des speech des Radio thème tours et de la chanson-titre Tempest pour le phrasé...et dans la lignée de ses longues odes (Désolation Road, Sad Eyed of lady of the lowlands, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of the heart, Brownsville Girl ... Il est évident qu'elle est récente (sans doute entre 2017 et 2020, mais à mon avis elle ne fait pas partie des sessions de Tempest: ni la voix ni le piano ne sonnaient comme cela en 2012...) et qu'elle confirme les multiples bruissements (Jack White, Aznavour, The Avener...) qui couraient depuis quelques temps: à savoir que quelque chose se tramait en studio et qu'un album était en gestation.

J'étais certain qu'il me manquait quelque chose: mea culpa pour l'oubli d'une autre supra-highlight de la période 1988-2020: Les Chroniques publiées en 2004. N'en jetez plus...
