C'est amusant, cette chanson m'exaspérait lorsqu'en 2010/2011 elle revenait chaque soir au devant de la scène. Je m'en lassais, tellement dissociable de Highway 61 qui suivait (ou était avant je ne sais plus exactement), mais jamais compris pourquoi il jouait ces deux chansons à la suite... bref je m'en fichais royalement de Thunder qui apportait un bon groove mais sans plus.

Et puis un jour j'ai écouté les paroles attentivement et la version de l'album est juste incroyable, en ouverture comme ça, on ne pouvait pas rêver mieux pour commencer Modern Times qui m'impressionne de plus en plus.

Depuis je me dis que ce serait bien qu'il la rejoue (infecte je suis), et j'imagine Bob entrer sur ce morceaux comme il le faisait pour Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat, qui excusez moi si vous la trouvez nian nian, donnait un sacré coup de fouet à l'arrivée de Bob.

Moi je l'adore depuis la première fois que je l'ai entendu.

C'est une chanson d'intro parfaite, surtout grâce à son intro parfaite et au rythme qui ne descend jamais. Les versions lives sont bonnes quand c'est également le cas, mais c'est pas toujours le cas...

Elle est truffée de bons mots et de catchphrases où Dylan se montre vif et mordant.
Et fait un beau duo avec "Spirit on the Water", qui lui oppose plus de douceur mais tout autant de morgue et de répartie.

J'adore cette chanson. En fait je l'aime de plus en plus depuis que j'ai entièrement redécouvert Modern Times l'été dernier. le jour où j'ai descendu la montagne, le ciel chargé d'électricité, l'orage s'est abattue sur terre au moment même où je me suis mis à l'abris, Thunder on the Mountain dans les oreilles, instant de pure Grace.

Je suis content que Bob l'ai intégré pendant cette tournée estivale.
